Westwood Estate Chardonnay Founder's Reserve Sangiacomo Roberts Road Vineyard Sonoma Coast 2021

“Westwood's Founder's Reserve Chardonnay comes from the Sangiacomo Roberts Road Vineyard in the Petaluma Gap AVA. The fruit was hand-harvested at night, then whole-cluster pressed. Barrel fermented, aged sur lie in small lots using new French oak barrels for 12 months with partial malolactic fermentation. This is a barrel selection of the best lots aged an additional 6 months. White flowers, almonds, acacia wood, a hint of vanilla, and butterscotch. Wonderfully salty and savoury with candied lemon peel, ginger, and quince, underscored by a firm spine of excellent acidity and a long lemon oil finish. Totally seductive and delicious.”

“The 2021 Founders Reserve Chardonnay is a superb effort from Westwood in 2021. The fruit comes from the Roberts Road Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast. It instantly begins with intense aromatics orchard fruits, Meyer lemon, lime, brown butter, and stone fruits along with intense mineral notes, spring flowers, crushed stones, sea spray and toasted brioche nuances that emerge from the glass. On the palate this incredibly focused, with remarkable depth, as layers of delicious flavors expand through the long mineral driven finish. This is simply great today and will flourish for years to come.”
