The team at Emeritus continues to impress across their entire portfolio. There is a richness to this vintage of the multi-clone Hallberg Ranch bottling that testifies to what is turning out to be a banner vintage for Pinot Noir in California. Cherry, soft oak toast, soft fall spice, dried herb and cedar spice notes play together well in layered fashion, finishing long and elegant, as usual.

Decanter93 pts

Emeritus Vineyards is the second effort of Brice Cutrer Jones upon selling Sonoma-Cutrer, established in 1999. The Halberg bottling is from the estate vines planted in 2000 and is a blend across several clones on the site (up to 11). The aromatics are elegant, with dried rose petals, wild fresh strawberries and whispers of gravelly minerality. The palate is lively, with red and blue fruits, spicy clove and chicory root and a raspberry leaf element that frames the finish.

Wine Enthusiast93 pts

Classic Russian River character from a dry-farmed vineyard is on display here, with a nose full of cherry, raspberry and cola spice aromas. The palate has a charming balance between crushed raspberry, mint and floral flavors and the grip of some ageworthy tannin. Drink 2028–2040.

James Suckling93 pts

An umami-rich nose of black plums, cherries and figs. A medium to full body shows flavors of blackberries and black cherries. The tannins give an espresso-like, plum skin sensation. Drink now.

Wine Spectator92 pts

Succulent flavors of mulberry, boysenberry and blackberry compote roll through this quite ripe version, with hints of singed apple wood and warm fruitcake through the flattering finish. Drink now through 2028. 1,000 cases made.

Windy weather during blooming led to a small crop set, then warm dry conditions ripened everything evenly. Small berries and thick skins produced wines of concentration, structure, freshness and purity
