This 2018 Podere Le Ripi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Lupi e Sirene has a youthful, blue-toned ruby color. It takes about 2 hours for the nose to open up fully but it is multi-layered and very beautiful when it does. The nose is delicate but persistent with ripe strawberries in syrup, macerated strawberries and crushed roses. The palate is a little denser with some concentration and savoury, chalky-textured tannins. Layers of gentle fragrance and flavors drift across the palate - blue flowers, rose and iris - come and go. It has a gentle flowing texture and weight with integrated tannins and a little twist of fine chalkiness on the finish. This wine has supreme drinkability. It is very beautiful and intriguing, concentrated without being heavy, with a fragile quality to the fragrance and a melting texture. Very harmonious.

Aromas of warm pavement, new leather, fresh brewed coffee, pepper and cherry blossom create a nose that's both warm and fresh, balancing a cool, fresh, tangy palate of crunchy red fruit, crushed rocks, damp earth and more pepper.

An enticing blend of dusty rose, cinnamon and clove gives way to lifting traces of mint and dried strawberries as the sweetly spiced 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Lupi e Sirene blossoms in the glass. This is pure elegance, with velvety textures guided by fresh acidity and polished red and blue fruits complicated by a savory herbal thrust toward the close. The balance here is otherworldly. The 2018 finishes with unexpected vibrancy despite a web of fine tannins that grumble on as licorice notes slowly fade. Packed full of character and holding its power in reserve, the 2018 is a textural thrill ride. This is on a beautiful, yet slow, path to maturity.

The 2018 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva Lupi Sirene pours a deep ruby color and is generous with ripe aromas of wild black cherries, licorice, turned earth, and dried orange peel. Medium to full-bodied, it saturates the palate with ripe tannins, balanced richness of concentration, and an even-keeled fresh acidity throughout. It’s ripe but retains lovely energy and is going to show at its best over the next 10 years.

Cherry, plum and floral flavors are shaded with wild herbs, earth, mineral and leather accents in this red, which starts out open, its moderately dense tannins shoring up the finish. Drink now through 2032. 1,000 cases made, 100 cases imported.

The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Lupi e Sirene comes from a two-hectare site with dark soils located east of Castelnuovo dell'Abate. The bouquet evokes ripe fruit and raspberry jam, and there are drying notes of clay, candied orange peel and desiccated rose. I also get an earthy note with compost, garden soil, wild mint and fennel. The wine's balsam character is quite strong. Production is 12,300 bottles and 400 magnums.

Disappointed to have missed out on that last brunello, the 2019. I bet this one goes quickly, too.
