“A dry yet cool growing season resulted in lower yields - the vines produced fewer berries due to the dry spring - which, along with the moderate temperatures, accelerated the ripening process. 'Maturation and concentration was going very fast,' explains Matthieu. Harvest was therefore early and fast. Mint chocolate, cedar and dried fruit aromas are joined on the palate by fragrant balsam and potpourri. A lighter style certainly than the preceding 2011, some fleshy black cherry emerges on the mid-palate. A fresh yet relatively delicate vintage. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, matured in French oak barrels (60% new) for 20 months.”
