“From just 1.5ha and aged in large botti, this wine comes from Ernesto Catena, a fourth-generation winemaker of Italian heritage. Its name translates as ‘Field of Chestnuts’. The vineyard is located in Valdisieve at 350m above sea level, surrounded by Tuscan forest. It’s drop-dead gorgeous, with impressive concentration and density of dark berry fruit and conifer character layered throughout. The gorgeously sculpted tannins are like fine porcelain bowls, providing a solid foundation into which the juicy fruit settles before washing over the palate. The finish carries great length, saline-acid tension and a panoply of wild herb notes – dried and savoury through and through. Alc 13.5%.”
