“This is from a selection of old cabernet vineyards planted in 1945 on the Clos de Luz property, in Almahue, in the center of the Cachapoal Valley. It comes from a cool season, and you can sense that in the herbal and slightly mentholated aromas that predominate on the nose, although they give way to fruitier flavors on the palate. The fine—very fine—tannins underpin the body and juicy acidity in a fruity-style cabernet, ready now for smoked ribs.”

“Aromas of black fruits such as blackcurrants and blackberries along with spicy notes. On the palate, it is savoury, intense, elegant, and full-bodied. The tannins are firm, smooth and well-structured with good acidity over a background of blackberries and blueberries. Hints of leather and tobacco give way to a long finish.”

“The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Massal 1945 from Almahue, Cachapoal, was aged in concrete vats and foudres. The slightly reductive nose offers red currant and white pepper notes with hints of rosemary. Dry and fairly taut in the mouth, the finely grained, polished tannins and juicy feel flow into a lingering, fruity finish. The cold year has left its mark on this much leaner than usual Cachapoal red.”
